Alonso: Felipe is a great challenger

Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso has said that he doesn't think there are many drivers quicker than his Ferrari team-mate Felipe Massa. Massa has endured two difficult seasons of late, firstly after suffering a terrible high speed accident in the qualifying session at the 2009 Hungarian GP, which put the Brazilian driver out for the remainder of the season. Then 2010 saw Massa get a new Ferrari team mate in the shape of two time world champion, Fernando Alonso, to which Massa then spent the season in Alonso’s shadow. 2010 was also the year, which caused huge controversy about team orders, when Massa was famously asked to move over for his Spanish team mate when Massa looked set to win the German Grand Prix. The 2011 season is now seen as a crucial one for Massa, and Alonso has spoken out positively about his team mate. "Felipe is a great challenger for me," Alonso told Welt "I don't think there are many drivers who are faster than him. After all, when he crossed the line in Brazil in 2008, he was the world champion for a few seconds, so he has to prove to no one how fast and talented he is." Furthermore, after the recent scandal of the 2010 German grand’s prix results, many believe Alonso to be seen as the Ferrari’s team number one driver. Although, technical director, Aldo Costa, disagrees saying he wants to see Massa keep up with the double world champion this season. "I hope so, because we need two strong drivers," Costa told Corriere dello Sport "But we are only going to find out now that the races are starting."
