Liuzzi Happy With HRT Test
Vitantonio Liuzzi had his first experience testing for the Hispania Racing team in Barcelona on Saturday. During the test the 30-year old Italian driver got used to the team and the car. Liuzzi finished the day 12th fastest out of the 14 drivers, completing 70 laps of the Barcelona circuit, and a best lap time of 1m 27.044s. Satisfied with the work done and the progress made Liuzzi said “Today was a positive day. We made a lot of changes on the car, focusing particularly on the set-up and the tyres. It was a chance for me to get to know the new tyres and the team as it was my first day with Hispania Racing. We couldn’t do a lot of laps since we had a problem with the gearbox in the afternoon, but we were able to clock a good time given the circumstances. We did long runs and short runs to test the performance of the car. Overall, I believe we’ve taken a step forwards with the balance of the car”. The team’s aim for the day was to achieve a lot of mileage and make small improvements to adapt the car balance to Tonio´s driving style. Team Principal, Colin Kolles, said: “It was nice to see Tonio driving for us today, our aim was none other than to have him get used to the car. We tested different settings on the car balance during both sessions and, looking at the times, we clearly improved as the day went on. We are very happy with Tonio’s work today”. The Hispania F1 team will test Swiss driver Giorgio Mondini at the afternoon session on Sunday, whilst recently signed, Narain Karthikeyan will be at the wheel of the team’s 2010 car on Sunday morning. Mondini had made his Formula 1 debut back in 2005, when he tested a Renault R25 as a reward for winning the Formula Renault V6 series. He was also the third driver for the MF1 Racing team in 2006, when HRT boss Colin Kolles was in charge of the squad. Mondini also raced a Kolles-run Audi in the 2009 Le Mans 24 Hours race.
