Rosberg fastest on final test day

Nico Rosberg has finished top of the time sheet at the final day of testing before the 2011 season gets underway. It was a rain-soaked day at the Circuit de Catalunya on Saturday, where there were only four teams still testing, all of whom seemed reluctant to head out on the waterlogged track in the morning session. In fact McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton was the first driver to set a flying lap shortly before the lunch break. By the end of the afternoon session it is believed that over 40ml of rain had fallen since Friday. Times improved in the afternoon session as the drivers completed more running, with Mercedes GP’s Nico Rosberg setting his best time of 1m 43.814s in the closing ten minutes. Rosberg’s team mate, Michael Schumacher drove the car in the opening hours of the morning session, but decided against trying a flying lap before handing the car over to Rosberg. Meanwhile, over at the Ferrari garage, Fernando Alonso only ran for five laps in the morning before the team, obviously happy enough with their pre-season preparations began packing up. Even the chants of "Fernando" from the die-hard fans sat in the main grandstand opposite the Ferrari garage couldn't persuade the Spaniard to attempt one more run. Once again there were issues for the HRT team, who announced last night that they would again not be able to run their new car, the F111, as the F111's dampers were still stuck in customs. The new car will therefore not make its track debut until practice in Melbourne.
