Vettel extends contract with Red Bull

The 2010 World Champion's contract was due to expire at the end of this season, with an option only in place for the 2012 season. However, the Red Bull team released a statement today confirming that the young German driver will stay with the team for another three years at least. Today’s news will end months of speculation that have been linking Vettel with a move to Ferrari, after he had admitted we would like to drive for the Italian team in the future. Although, Vettel was quick to add however, that he was in no rush to leave the team that helped him win his first world title. Speaking to Marca Vettel said: "If you look at my passport, I think I've got more than a couple of years more to think about it. I'm very happy where I am, it's like a family. I have a special relationship with Red Bull and I'm proud of that." The press release from the team simply read: “Red Bull announces today that it has extended its agreement with Sebastian Vettel – meaning the current World Champion will remain with Red Bull Racing until the end of 2014. Having been supported by Red Bull since 1998, Sebastian is a graduate of the Red Bull Junior Team. In 2008 he became the youngest-ever driver to win a grand prix and last year became the youngest-ever FIA Formula One Drivers’ World Champion.” Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko also confirmed that the deal was in place, with Autosport quoting Marko as saying "It was in mutual agreement that we extended Sebastian's contract to 2014. Both sides wanted to continue the partnership, so it was no big issue."
